In their statement, the two explained that differences in their lifestyles made it difficult to spend time together, and as they gradually drifted apart, they chose to respect each other and separate. They apologized to fans and colleagues for the personal announcement, thanked everyone for their support, and promised to continue working hard in their careers.

Ono and Hanazawa confirmed their relationship in 2017, following a report from Weekly Bunshun, and announced their marriage in 2020. Their divorce comes a little over a year after the pair shared what seemed to be a bowling date on social media.
